Oops, I got a terrible reaction of Alterra Aloe Vera mask! It's possible to be allergic of anything so there is not necessarily anything "wrong" this product. I just googled the inci of the product, didn't find it, but found this thread from german forum:
http://beautyjunkies.inbeauty.de/forum/archive/index.php/t-108096.html
"fire red skin", "like a crab"... So I guess I'm not the only one :-o There is not many "not familiar" ingredients, the products BDIH certified and inci looks good, I have no idea what did this! Maybe it's one of the "essential oils"... The product didn't even have a strong scent. companies do not have to list those in the Inci. I think they should. edit: I've heard that this product has caused allergies on other people too, so I just don't recommend this if your skin is sensitive.
My skin healed completely already, I used antihistamine and cortisone cream. I remember to more careful for now on! In the picture the skin feels better and I was able to be in the room temperature for a while. So if you have sensitive skin, this can happen... It's always good to make a skin test on smaller area!

Huh-heijaa, sainpas pikkuisen allergisen reaktion Saksasta tuomastani Alterra Aloe vera kasvonaamiosta!

ReplyDeleteI'm currently suffering from a terrible rash all over parts of my body that I treated with Lush massage butters. I have a feeling it is coconut oil that does not agree with me, even if the internet says that is very rare to happen. I will try to verify that as soon as my skin has calmed down, only in a small patch, of course. Have you checked for c.o.? It is, unfortunately, contained in very many creams and stuff.
ReplyDeleteThank you, the skin is ok already :)
ReplyDeleteCoconut oil seems to be ok for me... I have used it on my body without problems. I don't like the smell though.
:O OMG that is terrible :/ Hope you get better fast.
ReplyDeleteHei Nea
ReplyDeleteosaisitko sanoa mitä aineosia kannattaisi välttää luomiväreissä? Mulle tulee samantapainen reaktio luomiin useista luomiväreistä enkä ole onnistunut jäljittämään inci-listalta mikä sen aiheuttaa. Tai mitä merkkiä suosittelisit kokeilemaan?
Kiitos kivasta blogista :)
Karen U: Thanks :) i'm ok already!
ReplyDeleteEn valitettavasti osaa sanoa... Allerginen kun voi olla ihan mille vain :/ Itse saan reaktion mm. Lancomen luomiväreistä vuosia sitten (niiden haju jo tekee pahaa) sekä jostain ihan halvoista (mm. NYX)... Itse päädyin tästäkin syystä mineraalien maailmaan, niistä ainakin allergisoivan aineen löytää helpommin :) Mineraaleista suosikkejani ovat mm. Aromaleigh, Alima, Meow... Allergisena luottaisin juuri näihin vähän isompiin firmoihin, joilla on tietoa ainesosista ja allergioista. Sitten kun tilanne on rauhallisempi, kokeilisin esim Lumenea. Mutta tosiaan, ihan kaikelle voi olla allerginen!
oh my! get well soon

Oh no!! I'm glad it went away
ReplyDeleteI am sorry this happened to you, Hun. I always ignore the possibility of beauty products not agreeing with my skin, and causing it to react. But I will definitely be on the lookout for products who do such things to my face.
ReplyDeleteI am glad your are better, now :)
Voi ei! :o Itsellänikin on ihan superherkkä iho ja olen luopunut täysin kaikenlaisista maskeista, koska saan ihmeellistä punaista ihottumaa niistä moneksi päiväksi. :/ En tosin ole millekkään muulle allerginen, mikä tuntuukin aika ihmeelliseltä! Toivotaan kuitenkin että sinulla menee oireet nopeasti ohi. (:
ReplyDeletePoor you! I'm so glad it healed quickly!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! Are you completely healed now? That was a very bad bad bad reaction!!!! O_O Have you alerted the company? I believe that it may be suitable for other types of skin but I think the company should be alerted to that because you were not the only one having that reaction :( I also had an allergic reaction to a cucumber mask by Avon 10 years ago. My face got covered in red big pimples and lumps that hurt a lot. I tried other masks but I quit 'cause they always make my skin fall. Gladly I never had any other reaction to face products. I hope you are fine!
ReplyDeleteOMG, a new reaction! I've edited the post :-O Well, I'm glad my husband needs antihistamine from time to time...
ReplyDeleteOh my God, Nea! I'm so sorry for you...I always use product without testing and when I see you skin I thought:"Ok, I will ALWAYS test new products before applying them on my face!" Anyway, I'm happy you are ok! :)
ReplyDeleteOuch! I hope you can pinpoint the culprit so you can avoid it in the future.
ReplyDeleteOh no! That's something important! They need to reformule that! :(
ReplyDeleteI've found that some aloe products I get similar reactions like you..While some aloe products I've no reactions. I'm not sure why it's like that..So most of the time I avoid aloe. Get better soon!
ReplyDeleteThere is definitely something wrong with this Alterra mask, I've seen almost only bad reviews because of this allergic reaction. My guess it's due to Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder. Aloe vera skin is quite rich in aloin and aloe-emodin which both can cause allergic reaction among other things. It's safer to use products containing only aloe vera gel, because juice (from just beneath aloe skin) and whole leaf extract might be too rich in aloin and emodin, sometimes manufacturers don't separate the skin and the inner part because it's cheaper and easier - that might be the case here.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It really might be aloe... I've had a smaller reaction from aloe sometimes, but not always.
ReplyDeleteOh,sorry to hear that Nea..Hope you're fine now.I have an allergy from raw aloe when it's applied on my skin or hair scalp.Maybe the aloe one that cause you allergic..
ReplyDeleteOh,I want to add:raw aloe is very2 itchy when it's applied on my skin, just the same as raw tomato and honey.I have sensitive skin FYI..:)
ReplyDeleteAllergies are one of the oldest known human diseases. In fact, an allergic reaction is a major annoyance that interferes with normal activities. Allergic reaction is the natural response of the body to the allergens. Common allergens are dust, grasses, pollen grains, weeds, animal dander, insect venom, food items, microorganisms, certain chemicals, and so on. Despite the fact that symptom of allergy is usually mild to moderate, dealing with the allergy can be tough. At the same time, some patients experience a life-threatening allergic reaction known as anaphylaxis. As a result, high-quality study is a top focus in the battle against allergies.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the signs and symptoms of allergies?
Allergy symptoms often starts within minutes of allergen sensitization. Allergic conjunctivitis, sneezing, itchy, red, and watery eyes, breathlessness, cough, dermatitis, skin rashes, urticaria, and swollen lips, face, and tongue are all common allergy symptoms. The severity of allergy symptoms, on the other hand, varies greatly from people.
Patients with severe allergic diseases, on the other hand, have worse allergic symptoms. Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening medical emergency that can result from acute severe allergic response of the body. As a result, emergency hospitalisation is required to save the patients' lives. Severe respiratory distress, multiple organ failure, confusion, dizziness, and fainting are all symptoms of anaphylaxis.
